As a young woman in agriculture, I was super excited about the approach on the WEF Annual Summit 2024 in Davos being that they were strategic sessions on food security, support for small-holder farmers to improve food production, climate finance towards sustainable agriculture, discussions on improving the food supply value chain and other really impressive discuss but what made me had some deep thinking was that In most of these rooms, I was the youngest and hearing some speak about how young people are not interested in agriculture threw me off because top of my head I can point out young people across the continent passionately contributing towards food security across EVERY STAGE of the value-chain; Yes! Every stage including primary production.
When I had the opportunity to speak as a young woman in agriculture I was excited to not just share the work we do at Farmatrix https://farmatrix.com.ng/ by connecting small-holder farmers and Agro-commodity aggregators to market to reduce post-harvest loss and increase their profitability but to also represent Nigeria and the African continent by sharing the amazing work we do most especially in the Agricultural sector where we are innovatively transforming the industry to meet domestic food security and ultimately become a global food exporter and to share how women are the heartbeat of the value-chain making up 80% of the workforce from primary production to value-addition.
With a market potential of $33.8 billion, No better time to invest in the continent than now and most especially in young people in the agricultural sector that are constantly providing innovative solutions to improving the value-chain and making sure that food isnāt just grown sustainably but getting to the table of the consumer.
